In 2016, the library has 30.000 units and its catalogue is accessible via the public Gemeinsamer Bibliotheksverbund.
The library's collection policy seeks to collect 'writings of the counter-revolution after 1789', the works of 'conservative authors' and 'journals of the 19th and 20th century and of the present'. In the 20th century, the 'conservative revolution (1918-1932) is a further focal point'. Lastly, the academic literature on conservatism is collected, too.
It also has a special collection 'Lebensrecht', i.e. a collection on pro-life issues. This collection was started with the Stiftung Ja zum Leben - "Foundation Yes to Life".

The Library of Conservatism is specialised on conservative literature and is the first of its kind in Germany. It refers to itself as a 'Konservative Denkfabrik', i.e. a conservative think tank.

The library is supported by the Förderstiftung Konservative Bildung und Forschung (Foundation Conservative Education and Research) which was established by Caspar von Schrenck-Notzing in 2000. He founded the New Right journal 'Criticón' which sought to strengthen conservative thinking against the supposed social-liberal hegemony - the 'cultural revolution of the 1968' - in the Federal Republic.
